Q. Is my international airfare and local transportation included?
A. For full-time ministry positions, the airfare will be free and provided by the church. For paid and partial-paid positions, either your assigned school or church will reimburse half of the round-trip airfare.
Q. Do I need to have teaching experience to apply?
A. No. The quality of training that is provided equips you with the knowledge of professionals and hands-on experiences before you go overseas. Our training includes cross-cultural adjustment, relationship building and TESOL programs.
Q. Can I change the job after one year?
A. Yes. You may switch to any of the other available positions after one year, and your benefit packages with your sending organization remains. You will be asked to let your sending agency know of your decision at least 2 months before the end of your one-year term.
Q. Do I have to raise financial support?
A. We do encourage all team members to raise monthly support, if possible. Support raising develops a prayer team and gives you a group of individuals who share your vision and joy for your mission. The funds may also be used to repay student loans, car loans, or other legitimate personal debts, or they may be applied to your mission expenses. It is our desire to see the team members have peace of mind and be free from financial worries while serving our Lord overseas. Your sending agency will handle all receipts, tracking, and acknowledgement of donations. All donations are tax-deductible.
Q. Can teachers save money?
A. Our teachers are earning considerably higher wages than most locals, regardless of the position. Once settled in, you should be able to save a substantial amount of money and even pay off student debt, if any. You are able to save for several reasons: you have no lodging or car expenses, and the income tax rates are much lower in Taiwan, China and Japan, compared to the US.
Q. How much benefit do I really receive by going with an ESL-JOBS.com partner organization?
A. Moving to a new location can be a financial drain, especially for an overseas position. Relocating to a foreign country can also be a nerve-wracking experience. Joining a team includes benefits such as the support of understanding staff and local networks. This ensures that the transition is a positive and smooth experience. Your assigned school, host church, and family are all arranged prior to your departure. The Christian population in Taiwan or Japan is less than 1%. Thus, it would be very difficult for foreigners to locate a Christian landlord. Our living arrangements prior to your team's arrival will save you weeks of hotel room costs while looking for a suitable apartment. Other benefits include the help from your supportive teammates, and our network of churches and prayers are beyond measure.
Q. What spiritual support will I have when I go to the field?
A. You should build a team of intercessors and prayer warriors before your departure. Sending organization prayer teams will also support each team member.
Q. What is the function of the Scholarship Fund?
A. There is a Scholarship Fund for any team member who wishes to sign up for a second year of service. In addition, most schools or institutions provide bonus plans for extended contracts.
Q. How does the Retirement Fund work?
A. Traditional missionaries served overseas for years and then returned home broke. Some of our partner organizations offer a generous retirement plan designed to avoid such occurrences. The Retirement Fund automatically starts when you sign up for your first year contract with a school. It accumulates at an accelerated pace. It is 2% of your monthly income during the first year, 4% for the second year, 6% for the third year. Your monthly statement reflects your account balance. The fund will be available on the day you return to your country of origin.
Q. Are the teaching materials provided?
A. For most assignments, your school or employer provides all teaching materials. On other assignments, you may have to work with your host church to build up their library and teaching curriculum for the church's small English program.
Q. Am I sent with a team?
A. Yes. You will always be going with a team.
Q. How much is the administrative deduction from my salary?
A. A total of 10% of your income will be contributed to the administration costs, local church needs, China and Russia minority/metro missions, and overseas missions development. In reality, with the services and the support of our network systems, we save our team members nearly 12% of their income, plus all the contributions are tax-deductible.
